I found The Midwest Animation as I was preparing for my new faculty exhibition at St. Xavier University scheduled for the 12th of September. It shocked me to see how differently the iconography of this once silly piece read in the context of the events of the 11th. I did not show the piece the next day. I was not sure if I liked the piece as a hodgepodge of loaded violent imagery, it wasn't why I made it. In the time since then I have realized that this animation will not regain it's simple naive charm for quite some time. I feel that the little boys expression still mirrors mine, before it was wide-eyed amazement at breaking out of Middle-America, but now it seems to be simple disbelief and fear of the country exploding or folding in on itself.
